LSW Coach Mark Watt Scholarship

The LSW Coach Mark Watt Scholarship was established in 2024 by Lis Brenden, Ann Watt, and the Watt Family in honor of Coach Mark Watt.

Coach Watt’s 26-year career in Lincoln Public Schools included teaching physical education and coaching. He spent 20 years at Southwest High School – starting there when the school opened – as a teacher, baseball coach and softball coach. At Southwest he taught and built the foundation for the softball program leading them to four State Championships, guiding his teams with kindness, integrity, and competitiveness. Mark’s greatest achievement was to have made a positive difference in the lives of many players and coaches over the past two decades.

Marks’ strength was an ability to focus on qualities that he felt were important to developing capable young women. He helped players to:

  • See the big picture (playing and winning with character)
  • Work well together (unity and team spirit)
  • Focus on their strengths (working toward team and personal goals and using a positive growth mindset).

Mark was named the 21-22 Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High school Associations. In his 26-year career he won 579 games, led teams to four Class A state championships, and was a volunteer coach for the Husker softball team.
