Amount Awarded: $1,000

About the Award:

Nominated By: Jason Shanahan, Principal

Briefly describe how this educator has made a difference in peoples' lives by promoting
health and physical fitness. Please be as specific as possible concerning the outstanding
contribution of the nominee as evidenced by commitment and innovation.

I first began my work with Anna McVay in 2009 where Anna began her first full year as an
educator and I began my tenure at LPS with the opening of Schoo Middle School. I was
impressed then with the teaching skill and prowess of such a rookie educator. Fifteen years
later, I have the privilege of serving Mickle Middle School, where Anna has been a PE/Health
teacher for the past 13 years.

Anna's dedication to the field of physical education is commendable. She has impacted
students lives in a positive way both in the classroom as a teacher, as well as on the basketball
court as a coach. Additionally, Anna practices what she preaches to students, and
participated in Crossfit competions and teaches and coaches fitness and strength classes to
youth in the city. In the past two school years, Anna has piloted the first strength and
conditioning program and class for LPS middle school students. This program has been a
huge success, most of which can be attributed to Anna's knowledge and dedication to the
students and community of Mickle.
