Amy Pickerill
Bay High
Special Education Teacher
Amy Pickerill was new to focus programs this year. She spent her year serving four very unique buildings and somehow, she managed to serve her students individually in each building in a way that fit their learning needs.
For Bay High, Amy was a dedicated advocate and voice for students and staff. She was instrumental in ensuring supports were provided for a wide range of students. She often had to go above and beyond in order to make sure students were getting what they needed for special education minutes and services.
As she learned to work on each team, she became quite proficient at "code switching" on days when she had to be in more than one building. What works with students at the Student Support Program (SSP) where she often starts her day is not the same as what works for Bay High students or Arts & Humanities students. Focus programs are a different kind of hard that ask a lot of every team member.
It has been inspiring to watch Amy grow and support many different buildings with their diverse student populations and needs. We appreciate Amy and the hard work she has made look easy this year across small programs.
