2021 Inspire Award Winners

Carmen Zalman

Maxey Elementary
3rd Grade Teacher
Nominated By: Principal Suzanne Reimers

Dr. Zalman has a contagious, positive attitude. She loves being a teacher and her students can feel that! Many say that she is the best teacher they ever had! Last spring when all students were learning remotely, Dr. Zalman did everything she could to connect with her class and keep them engaged with school even though she was not directly teaching the lessons at that time. She was eager to get back to school this fall and to her, it didn't matter what safety measures were needed, they were worth it to be in school with her students. She is grateful to be in school every day. She gives the same positive efforts this year while teaching both in person and remote students. It is a challenge, but Dr. Zalman is always up for a challenge. During a time when Maxey had multiple staff members gone due to COVID related issues, Carmen quickly stepped up to help out where ever possible. She is always willing to cover classes and step in when needed, she offers the help. This positive attitude that is brought to school every day is why Dr. Zalman is an inspiration to her students and her staff.
