2021 Inspire Award Winners

Elizabeth Vieyra

Kahoa Elementary
5th Grade
Nominated By: Principal Terri Nelson

It is my pleasure to nominate 5th grader Elizabeth Vieyra for the Kahoa Inspire Award recipient. I have watched Elizabeth for 6 years now leading by example with so much kindness and care for all her classmates. Elizabeth inspires me in how she encourages others, includes all her classmates, and does the right thing because that is who she is, never doing so looking for recognition or thanks. One teacher remarked about Elizabeth, “I can count on her to work with any student with enthusiasm and compassion, no matter who it is.”

Elizabeth quietly leads by example and takes the lead and initiative to include other students, especially those who struggle at times to find their place in the social structure of the school community. This year especially, Elizabeth has taken the lead, to bring in a student with some special needs into her peer group. She does so with authenticity and care, encouraging and coaching this student along the way. Elizabeth has no idea the adults see this. So many times, she does these things when she thinks no one is watching, but we see her and want her to know the difference she is making and the inspiration she is to both students and staff at Kahoa. Elizabeth carries herself with such a kindness and humility. We need more Elizabeth Vieyras in our community!
